Hi, my name is Brian Nichols, and I am the pastor here at Country Alliance Church. I along with my wife Theresa are both 1985 graduates of Philadelphia Biblical University. I was a pastoral studies major, and my wife was a missions major. Allow me to share with you how Jesus Christ changed my life.
He Changed my Life
I was raised in a traditional, liturgical, mainline church. As was the custom in so many homes at that time, I was dragged to church every week and told, “It was the least I could do for God.” However, I did not even know if this “God” existed and besides, what did He ever do for me? As the saying goes, “one hand washes the other” so I guess if I gave God an hour on Sunday, then He should do some good things for me in exchange for my weekly sacrifice. I must admit that this line of thinking became harder and harder as I entered into my teens. As I looked at my peers, they lived quite a different standard outside the church than in, and as I looked at society which did the same, I saw no real evidence that God existed. Add to this what I was learning in school about the origins of man and the universe itself, I was rapidly coming to the conclusion that God was simply a myth.
He Knew What I Needed
But I asked myself, “Could millions of people who went to church be wrong?” and so I would lay in bed at night looking up at the ceiling and say, “God, if you are real, you are going to have to prove it to me.” I had no idea that I was actually agreeing with the many verses in the Bible that say, “If you seek Him, you will find Him.” Of course, I had no idea how to seek Him or even were to look, but God knew, and within a short time things and events began to enter my life that convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that God did indeed exist. Prophesy was the first. For instance, things written in the Old Testament that would come true exactly as foretold hundreds of years later. Literally hundreds of prophecies too many for random chance to explain. Then, the origins of life and the universe itself. The need for an “uncaused first cause” and “intelligent design”. The fact that something had to have always existed plus the great complexity and order of the universe itself even DNA indicated to me that all this could not have happened by random chance but rather showed evidence of intelligent design. God knew exactly what I needed in order to believe in Him. However, upon being convinced of His existence, I knew that I did not know Him in a personal way. Who is He? What is He like? How does He communicate? Does He have a plan for my life?
He Revealed Himself to Me
I knew that I could not find the answers in the church I was going to, so I sought out a church that just taught the Bible. It was not long until I was introduced to Jesus Christ. God came down to earth and took on flesh and lived among us so that we could know who God is and what He is like. Jesus proved He was God in the flesh by fulfilling hundreds of prophecies, by performing many miracles, and by raising from the dead. For the first time, Christmas and Easter actually made sense! In order to know God, one must know Jesus, so I gave my life to Him at fifteen years of age. By age eighteen, I knew that I wanted to learn as much about Him as I possibly could and I also wanted to teach others, so I entered Bible college with the hopes of being a pastor someday.
He Wants to Know You Too
I feel like the journey has just begun, and I am still just getting to know Him. That’s the beauty of the Christian life! The God we serve is so awesome that it will take this life and all of eternity itself just to start to get to know Him. If you seek Him, you will find Him. He knew exactly what I needed in order to find Him and place my faith in Him. He also knows what it will take for you. He is certainly up to the challenge... are you?
